The Y strainer is an indispensable filtering device for the pipeline system of medium transmission. The Y strainer is usually installed at the inlet of the pressure reducing valve, pressure relief valve, fixed water level valve or other equipment to remove impurities in the medium , so as to protect the normal use of valves and equipment. It has the characteristics of advanced structure, small resistance, and convenient drainage.

Y strainer is also known as decontamination device and filter valve. Its function is to filter mechanical impurities in the medium. It can filter rust , sand particles in the sewage, and a small amount of solid particles in the liquid to protect the accessories on the equipment pipeline from wear and blockage and protect the normal operation of the equipment.

Principle requirements for Y strainer selection
1. The inlet and outlet diameter:
In principle, the inlet and outlet diameter of the filter should not be smaller than the inlet diameter of the matched pump, generally consistent with the inlet pipe diameter.
2. Nominal pressure selection:
Determine the pressure level of the strainer according to the highest pressure that may occur in the filter line.
3. Selection of the number of holes:
The selection of the mesh size of the strainer mainly considers the particle size of the impurities to be intercepted, which depends on the process requirements of the medium process.
4. Material:
The material of the strainer is generally selected to be the same as the material of the connected process pipe. For different service conditions, consider choosing a strainer made of cast iron, carbon steel, low alloy steel or stainless steel.
5.Calculation of resistance loss:
The pressure loss of water filter is 0.52-1.2kpa under the general calculation of rated flow rate.
